How Escapement came to be
Escapement opened on Mittraphap Road in Khon Kaen after years of work at a larger service centre in Bangkok. The founding idea was simple: watchmaking is a conversation between the repairer and the owner, and that conversation gets lost when a workshop processes too many pieces at once.
The name comes from the escapement mechanism — the small assembly inside every mechanical movement that releases energy in controlled steps, one tick at a time. It felt like an honest description of the way we work: deliberately, one piece at a time, without rushing the process.
We take in a limited number of pieces each month. This is a deliberate choice. It means every watch receives proper attention, and every owner gets a straight answer about what their watch needs and what it doesn't.

To carry out watchmaking work that the owner would choose again, knowing what it involves. That means honest assessments, fair pricing, and results that speak for themselves over time.

Manages intake, documentation, and communication with owners. Makes sure every piece is correctly logged and that nothing leaves without its paperwork in order.

Supports the workshop with parts research, case and bracelet care, and movement photography for restoration records. Currently completing advanced horology training.
Our Standards
How We Work
Every piece that enters the workshop goes through the same structured process, regardless of its value or complexity.
Documented Intake
Every watch is photographed and described at intake. Condition is noted before any work begins, so there is a clear record of what we received.
Loupe-Level Inspection
Movement components are examined under magnification before and after service. Nothing is reassembled until each part meets the standard required for the service type.
Timing Measurement
A timing machine reading is taken in multiple positions at the end of every service. Results are included in the documentation given to the owner.
Secure Handling
Pieces are stored individually in labelled trays when not on the bench. Workshop access is restricted and all repairs are carried out by named individuals.
Owner Approval
For any decision that affects originality or adds cost — replacement parts, case work, crystal — the owner is contacted and asked to approve before work proceeds.
Service Records
A written summary of all work carried out accompanies the watch on return. This forms a permanent part of the watch's service history and is useful for future owners.
About Our Craft
Watch repair in Khon Kaen — what we do and how we think about it
Mechanical watches are among the most compact and intricate things made by hand. A typical movement contains between 100 and 400 individual components, many of them smaller than a grain of rice. Caring for them properly takes time, the right equipment, and — perhaps most importantly — the willingness to stop and assess before doing anything.
At Escapement, we cover three types of work: timing assessment and adjustment for watches running slightly off rate; thorough cleaning and servicing for chronograph movements; and museum-grade restoration for rare or inherited pieces where the condition of original parts matters. Each of these requires a different level of involvement, and we're direct with owners about what their watch actually needs rather than defaulting to the most comprehensive option.
Khon Kaen sits at the centre of the Isan region, and we work with owners from across northeast Thailand, as well as those who send pieces in from further afield. In-person visits are welcome by appointment, and we're happy to spend time at intake explaining what we're looking at and what the realistic options are.
Watch repair done carefully takes longer than watch repair done quickly. We don't apologise for that. A movement that has been properly cleaned, lubricated, and regulated should serve reliably for another five to seven years without intervention — and often longer if the watch is worn sensibly and stored well. That's the outcome we're aiming for.
